Instructor Development Path at SubAQUA Diving Center
The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) Course is the first teaching level program in the PADI Instructor Development system. It bridges the gap between Divemaster and full instructor training; focuses on teaching skills, presentation techniques and professional teaching standards.
The Assistant Instructor course at SubAQUA Diving Center is led by experienced PADI professionals playing an active role in instructor-level training, conducted in accordance with PADI Course Director and Instructor Manual standards.

The AI course is the first part of the Instructor Development Course (IDC). It introduces candidates to PADI's teaching system and prepares them for teaching roles under instructor supervision. Training is performance-based; candidates progress only when they demonstrate the required teaching competencies.

Is Assistant Instructor a full instructor certification?
No. AI is a teaching rating and the first part of the IDC. It does not allow you to issue Open Water certifications independently.
Can I teach as an Assistant Instructor?
Assistant Instructors may conduct specific teaching activities under the supervision of a PADI Instructor, as outlined in PADI standards.
Is the AI course performance-based?
Yes. Progress depends on demonstrated teaching ability, not course duration.
Does the AI course count towards becoming an OWSI?
Yes. Completing the AI course counts as credit towards the full Instructor Development Course (IDC).
